L-3 Communications Space & Navigation Awarded $14 Million Contract to Build Hardware for Boeing's Delta Avionics Program

Farnborough, England, July 19, 2004 – L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) announced today that its Space & Navigation division (L-3 S&N) has been awarded a $14 million contract by the Boeing Company of Huntington Beach, California, for the Delta Avionics program. Under this contract, which will run through April of 2008, L-3 S&N will assume design responsibility, then produce, qualify, test and deliver a total of 566 units comprised of ten different part types.

The program is a continuation of L-3 S&N’s heritage of producing highly reliable products for space launch applications. L-3’s hardware for the Delta Avionics program ranges from complex assemblies, providing inertial sensing, power switching and actuator control functions, to simple modules used for transient suppression. The avionics will be used in every stage of the Delta launch vehicle.

“ This award, coupled with our Redundant Inertial Flight Control Assembly (RIFCA) program, allows us to be one of the primary suppliers of Delta hardware to Boeing,” said Paul Wengen, president of L-3 S&N. “The contract demonstrates our customer’s continued confidence in our capabilities and our industry-leading standards, and will ensure we continue to be a key supplier on Boeing’s Delta launch vehicles.”
