Advanced Surveillance
System for Law Enforcement Takes Flight
SANTA ROSA, California (July 23, 2008)
- The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department has installed
the next-generation Model 12 – 650 long range imaging
system on their helicopter to provide enhanced surveillance
in support search and rescue operations. “This
is a great example of how L-3 provides a complete mission ready
solution for our law enforcement customers” said Che
Voigt, president of L-3 Sonoma electro optics business located
in Santa Rosa. “In this case, our expertise in
EO/IR sensor systems and certification played a timely roll
in supporting an actual rescue operation on the maiden flight”.
The Model 12 – 650 called the “Enforcer” is
designed to meet the mission needs of law enforcement, paramilitary
and surveillance applications on both rotary and fixed-wing
aircraft. The system allows aircrew to clearly see detail
activity of interest through smoke, haze and especially at
night. “The immediate value of the L-3 Sonoma sensor
solution was evident in a recent rescue operation shortly after
system installation” “This capability provides
the department with dramatically improved situational awareness
in conducting these types of operations”.
The L-3 EO/IR solution installed
on aircraft is the lightest weight system in its class. Sensors
include high performance infrared, visible color cameras and
optional laser illuminator. Key to the sensor performance
is the stabilization technology that is designed into all L-3
Sonoma EO systems.
