HCU
Handheld Computer Unit (HCU)

| L-3
Communications presents the Handheld Computer Unit (HCU)
for severe environmental conditions. Military users have
always relied on L-3's ruggedized handheld computers in the
field. L-3 is a leading supplier of handheld, ruggedized
computers designed to meet portable computing requirements
in demanding operational environments envisioned for U.S.
and allied defense forces. The new HCU is a "drop-in" replacement
for the CHS legacy HTU, permitting the use of existing HTU
mounting racks, interface cables and support infrastructure.
With the advent of the HCU, L-3 Communications brings its
significant rugged handheld legacy expertise to bear in offering
the first fully V3-compliant rugged terminal that includes
both Intel® processing power and full sunlight readability.
The HCU's open system architecture design allows easy processor
upgrades to its current baseline configuration. The HCU's
tactical modem supports most U.S. military communications
protocols. The 8.4-inch display is a full color sunlight
readable active matrix LCD. An optional touchscreen is available.
Designed with open system, non-proprietary architecture,
the HCU has the capability to run applications under UNIX
(including LINUX, SCO and SOLARIS), MS-DOS or Windows (95,
98, NT, 2000, XP). The HCU accepts all CompactFlash cards
and microdrives. An optional rugged solid-state hard drive
can be offered in lieu of the standard internal 2.5-inch
hard disk drive.
