NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 20, 2012--
L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) announced today that its Westwood
division has been awarded a contract to design and manufacture the next
generation of 100 kW and 200 kW generator sets, known as Large Advanced
Mobile Power Sources (LAMPS), for the U.S. Army. The initial $11.5
million delivery order will provide Engineering and Manufacturing
Development (EMD) over a 32-month period. Additionally, there are three
production options (for a total of up to 36 months) with a contract
ceiling price of $92.2 million.
LAMPS is a modernization program that will provide more mobile, reliable
and logistically supportable tactical electric power sources for the
U.S. Department of Defense’s (DoD) 21st century digitized
forces. LAMPS will replace the currently fielded 100 and 200 kW
Military-Standard generator sets procured from 1980 through 1992 and the
Tactical Quiet Generator (TQG) sets initially fielded in 2004. The new
equipment will provide improved tactical electric power to combat,
combat support and combat service support units throughout the U.S. Army
and the other military services within the DoD.
