L-3 Receives Two 2012 Cogswell Outstanding Industrial Security Achievement Awards

– Fourth Consecutive Year Multiple Facilities Are Recognized –

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jul. 11, 2012-- L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) announced today that two of its facilities have received the prestigious James S. Cogswell Outstanding Industrial Security Achievement Award from the U.S. Department of Defense, Defense Security Service (DSS). L-3’s WESCAM Sonoma Operations facility in Santa Rosa, Calif., and its ComCept facility in Rockwall, Texas were selected as two of only 26 recipients of this year’s award, from a field of 13,000 cleared defense contractors.

The Cogswell Award recognizes industrial security excellence and is the highest honor a company can receive in the handling of classified information. This is the fourth year in a row that L-3 has received two or more Cogswell Awards for outstanding security practices, with L-3 receiving three awards in 2011.

“We are deeply honored that the hard work and commitment of the men and women of L-3’s Security staff have been recognized as superior by the Defense Security Service,” said Vincent L. Jarvie, L-3’s vice president of corporate security. “Security continues to be critically important in protecting our warfighters and the security of our nation, and it is gratifying to know that L-3’s leadership in this area achieves the highest industry standards possible. I want to personally thank our Security teams at WESCAM Sonoma and ComCept for earning this recognition and our employees company-wide for their enduring commitment to security excellence.”

The Cogswell Award selection process is rigorous, requiring nominated facilities to clearly demonstrate a sustained degree of excellence and innovation in their security program management, implementation and oversight. A national review team is responsible for consolidating and ranking the thoroughly vetted nominees, and DSS makes the final award selections.

Headquartered in New York City, L-3 employs approximately 61,000 people worldwide and is a prime contractor in C3ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) systems, aircraft modernization and maintenance, and government services. L-3 is also a leading provider of a broad range of electronic systems used on military and commercial platforms. The company reported 2011 sales of $15.2 billion.
