L-3 Receives Three 2011 James S. Cogswell Outstanding Industrial Security Achievement Awards

NEW YORK, Jul 26, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) announced today that three of its facilities have received the prestigious James S. Cogswell Outstanding Industrial Security Achievement Award from the U.S. Department of Defense, Defense Security Service (DSS). L-3's CyTerra facility in Orlando, Fla., and two of its Services Group facilities, MPRI in Alexandria, Va. and C2S2 in Panama City, Fla., were selected as three of only seventeen recipients of this year's award, from a field of 13,000 cleared contractor facilities. The Cogswell Award recognizes outstanding industrial security practices and is the highest honor a company can receive for excellence in the handling of classified information.

"Being selected to receive three awards this year is a testament to the commitment L-3 has to achieving the highest security standards throughout the Corporation," said Vincent L. Jarvie, L-3's vice president of corporate security. "We are honored to have multiple L-3 divisions recognized by the Defense Security Service for the third consecutive year. I extend my sincere thanks to the Security staff and L-3 employees whose exemplary work enabled us to win these awards."

Nominees go through a vigorous selection process that includes external vetting by all customers and a national team review. The review team then consolidates and ranks the nominations, and that ranked listing is submitted to the Director of DSS for final approval.
