L-3 Signs Agreement with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 27, 2008--L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) announced today that it has signed a Blanket Purchase Agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to assist the agency with preparedness efforts for all-hazards, including acts of bio-terrorism and pandemic outbreaks. With a ceiling value of $215 million over five years, L-3's scope of work includes strategic and operational planning, training and exercise programs for CDC personnel, as well as institutional and organizational capacity and leadership building.
This new agreement expands the CDC relationship with L-3's MPRI business unit, which was first contracted in April 2006 to develop the CDC Influenza Pandemic Operational Plan. MPRI, a recognized industry leader in integrated solutions for simulations, training and operations, is now expanding its work to the all-hazards arena and will develop programs for the local, state and national level.
"We are delighted to expand our relationship with the CDC by supporting its vital work in pandemic and ongoing public health maintenance programs," said retired Gen. Carl E. Vuono, president of L-3 Services Group. "Our decades of experience preparing government agencies and organizations to prevent and handle crises makes us uniquely suited for this effort."
Headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, MPRI provides comprehensive and integrated programs that address training, education, leader development, organizational design and implementation, simulations, democracy transition and emergency management across a broad spectrum of functional areas. Its customers include the Department of Defense, Department of Justice, Department of State and selected international government agencies.
