In support of marine installation of cabled undersea sensor systems, L-3 MariPro developed proprietary cable hydrodynamic models and computer aided deployment tools suitable for precise placement of sensor nodes on the sea floor. These systems were used successfully for many years until the availability of commercial systems became more cost effective when compared to continuing to sustain our proprietary systems.

For cabled undersea sensor systems, sensor placement accuracy requirements of less than 100 meters in depths of down to 5,000 meters can be typical. The navigation/installation system model must include the effects of turns by the installation vessel and the pullout of slack as the sensor node approaches the ocean bottom.

L-3 MariPro selected Makai Ocean Engineering’s MakaiPlanPro and MakaiLay products which are widely used and recognized by many industry leaders.  These systems allow powerful and precise 3-D dynamic simulations and then integration into the vessels navigation and cable handling systems.
