L-3 Communications MariPro, Inc. is an ISO 9001:2000 certified company, located near Santa Barbara, California. With nearly five decades of experience, we specialize in providing undersea sensor network and spread spectrum through water communication solutions.  We are a system concept-through-operations company with extensive experience in applications engineering including: performance modeling, high reliability electronics, long-life mechanical packaging, electro-optic cable terminations, fiber optic telemetry, signal processing and complex in-water installations.

State-of-the-art electro-optics technology is integrated with appropriate sensor technologies and robust mechanical systems to provide innovative solutions to demanding system requirements. The consideration of at-sea installation is a key element in our system designs. Our experienced engineers review customer requirements, model critical design parameters and simulate system performance as part of our overall solution development process. System development costs and schedule are minimized through the use of COTS components. Our proven electro-optic cable terminations, pressure vessels and deployment packages have consistently exceeded their 20-year design life requirements. Following design, manufacturing and test, our systems are deployed using a ship-of-opportunity approach utilizing our containerized cable system installation equipment.

Highly reliable undersea range and surveillance systems designed, manufactured and installed by MariPro, now comprise virtually all of the in-water hardware used in the US Navy’s fixed range facilities today. We have developed, built and installed more than 60 cabled acoustic systems comprised of nearly 300 strings of hydrophone arrays containing approx. 6,700 kilometers of cable at ocean depths ranging from 20 to 5,000 meters. These systems are designed to operate reliably for at least 20 years, with many installed systems lasting well beyond their design life. In addition to training range applications, we have applied our cabled system capabilities to scientific applications, such as the development of ROV serviceable science nodes for the currently emerging Ocean Observatories market; and the development of solutions for surveillance applications.

We have developed a portable acoustic range capability for the US Navy. This solution represents a blend of MariPro technology with technology developed by our sister division, L-3 Nautronix in Fremantle, Australia. This capability enables training for forward deployed forces without the penalty of long transit times back to the fixed range locations. We are currently working to extend the applicability of this portable range technology to support a larger group of training exercises.

We are also working with L-3 Nautronix to provide highly reliable low frequency text messaging for submarine and manned underwater vehicle through water communications. Prototype development units are used extensively for training exercises. This capability is planned to be installed on existing and new submarines via the Acoustic Rapid COTS Insertion (ARCI) process. In addition, we have developed highly reliable acoustic modems for text messaging, and command and telemetry applications, for manned and unmanned underwater vehicles.
