Fuzing & Ordnance Systems (formerly L-3 KDI Precision Products) is recognized worldwide as a technology leader in the
development of highly sophisticated systems for radio frequency (RF) proximity and
sensing applications.
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Whether it is today’s most advanced Frequency
Modulation (FM) proximity system or a simple
continuous wave (CW) system, we have the
knowledge, expertise, and facilities to design, develop,
manufacture, and test a high-reliability, low cost
solution to meet customer needs.
The U.S. Army’s new M734A1 and M734A1F1
MO fuzes were initially designed by ARDEC. An
integrated product team, consisting of L-3 Fuzing & Ordnance Systems, EDC, & ARDEC Technical
Specialists, developed a production fuze configuration
incorporating a fully integrated Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit (MMIC) front end and a mixed-mode (analog/digital) Signal Processor I.C. Operating as a FM/CW Directional Doppler Ranging (DDR) proximity sensor, the fuze
constitutes state-of-the art munition deployment.
L-3 Fuzing & Ordnance Systems engineering capabilities are fully demonstrated where unique, cutting-edge sensor technology
is combined with modern electronic components to provide a fully integrated munition device. Production of this assembly in
our modern high quality manufacturing facility has yielded excellent field results.
We have produced in excess of 1,000,000 fuzes to date with a near perfect ballistic firing reliability record in
Lot Acceptance Testing.
The M734A1 and M734A1F1 MO fuzes are state-of-the art proximity mortar fuzes that are affordable, producable,
and reliable.
The M734A1 MO Fuze electronics employ microprocessor-based logic together with state-of-the-art Gallium Arsenide (GaAs)
RF technology packaged into a Flex Cable Assembly using modern surface mount technologies. This new design provides
more accurate height of burst, eliminates up-leg earlies and is ECM hardened. This fuze can
be used on the 60mm, 81mm, and 120mm mortar projectiles. The M734A1 setting modes are
proximity (7 & 14 feet for 60/81mm and 120mm respectively), impact, and delay.
L-3 Fuzing & Ordnance Systems development expertise is an outgrowth of many years of experience
in the design and development of RF proximity fuzing systems for its valued Department of Defense
customers. Design and developmental activities are centered in the new, well-equipped L-3 Fuzing &
Ordnance Systems laboratories which efficiently accommodate the various technical disciplines embodied in our products. |
