We are a proud supplier of Avionics Life-cycle Support in the Maritimes, with over 20 years of active participation on various CP-140 support contracts and modernization programs.
Geared to improving operational availability of ageing avionics systems, L-3 ES provides life-cycle support and optimized weapon system support for the Canadian Forces’ CP-140 Aurora Maritime Patrol Aircraft fleet and other aircraft.
Support is provided from our Halifax facility.
A technical staff of over 60 personnel are involved in sustaining
the CP-140
mission systems, 13 of which provide on-site engineering and
logistics services directly to Canada’s Department of National Defence and other customers as necessary. |

Our team
has conducted thousands of technical studies and investigations,
maintains over 800 technical publications and is responsible
for the R&O of 46 mission system weapons replaceable assemblies
and 250 subassemblies. This participation has provided us with
an intimate knowledge of the CP-140’s avionics architecture,
functionality and subsystems.
We are currently responsible for “total” life-cycle
support of the CP-140 aircraft avionics systems and related
ground support systems under the CP-140 Avionics Systems Support
Contract, as well as systems engineering for several other
major CP-140 modernization projects.
With the CP-140 as one
of our principal programs, we have invested heavily in establishing
our Halifax facility as a centre of excellence for Maritime
Aviation support. “Squadron-to-depot” levels
of maintenance are offered at the facility and it’s
equipped with custom-built Automatic Test Equipment and other
advanced technologies, which allow for more efficient and
timely maintenance and repairs. We are committed to continuously
evolving and developing our resources and tools at the Halifax
facility to ensure an optimum level of service to CP-140
modernization programs. For example, to assist in Aurora
avionics evaluation and testing, we funded the development
of the System Test Facility (STF), a highly versatile test
station used on a number of Aurora avionics subsystems. The
STF exemplifies our capability in avionics supportability.
It has improved equipment availability and reduced both equipment
and test program development costs.
As the Aurora avionics components become uneconomical to support,
we are committed to providing a highly versatile support environment
and have expanded our Halifax facility to support future replacements
or enhancements of CP-140 avionics subsystems.
