To take a modern electronics program from inception
through to manufacture, test and delivery requires the ability
to coordinate and integrate numerous and diverse systems and
make them all compatible. That, succinctly, is the function of
Systems Engineering. The major benefit of Systems Engineering
to the customer is the correct determination of his requirements,
and the determination of the most efficient and cost-effective
solution.
L-3 ES’ Systems Engineering group consists of a wide range of highly skilled industry specialists who work as team to supply essential system development services. Our capabilities include program management, operational analysis, system design, equipment engineering, software development, system test and integrated logistics support.
We also offer value-based engineering support services such as design to cost engineering, rapid prototyping and test equipment design and build. This combination of expertise generates vast benefits for our customers. |

Program Management
L-3 ES applies Program Management
techniques in the execution of its contractual commitments and
uses a Program Management
business approach, which is based on defence industry practices
and standards. We understand that without sound planning and
control strategies the execution of any program is at risk.
When a customer partners with L-3 ES a highly
qualified program manager is assigned and oversees the project.
This individual
can be reached 24- hours a day and has the ability and authority
to draw on all necessary resources to fulfil the Company’s
obligation to the customer.
We use a comprehensive set of policies and procedures to
manage our programs and to ensure that schedule, cost,
quality and
technical program objectives are achieved. This process ensures
rapid turn
around times and maximum cost effectiveness.
Operational Analysis
L-3 ES is committed to the principle that only a thorough
understanding of the user’s requirement – not only of what is required
but also why it is required - can provide the necessary foundation
for the development of a suitable system design. To ensure this
information is available, our personnel scientifically examine
the user’s requirements – functional analysis, external
environment analysis and system constraints – and the
results are used to formulate the design.
System Design
Our designers are skilled in transforming the functional
requirements, identified through the operational analysis,
into criteria
that are used to formulate the optimum solution. All contributing
factors are considered to ensure that design decisions are
reliable,
including plans to identify and reduce technical risk and
produce a cost-effective product.
Equipment Engineering
Our equipment engineers expand our systems engineering capability
by providing the recommendations of equipment/parts produced
by outside manufactures to be used on a given program. Based
on this information, the functional allocations are transformed
into detail specification requirements. L-3 ES has solid
relationships with pre-qualified suppliers that provide us
with available
and up-to-date equipment/parts, and keep us informed on new
innovations
and improvements to be expected in the future.
Other Engineering Services
Under the Systems Engineering concept, provision
is made to support the development process by providing analysis
and recommendations
concerned with human factors, electromagnetic compatibility,
survivability, safety and standardization. This specialized
knowledge
contributes to the success of the program from inception,
through design, to production.
System Test
Our test engineers plan the requirements for comprehensive
performance verification testing, which includes all requirements
from environmental
qualification to overall system effectiveness. Test activities
are organized and executed in logical sequence to identify
and correct potential problems in a timely manner. This approach
reduces final testing requirements and improves schedule
performance. |
