L-3 ES has modern facilities in Toronto, Ontario
and Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. In Ottawa, the
Company maintains a Government Relations and Industry Affairs
Office and provides on-site
engineering and logistics services directly to Canada’s
Department of National Defence and other customers.
The Toronto facility houses the Navigation Systems and Display
Systems businesses, as well as Management, Finance and Administration
departments, while the Halifax facility houses the Vehicle
Electronics and Systems Engineering and Support business areas.
In Toronto, we recently completed the Design Implementation
Phase of the F/A-18 Multipurpose Display Group Upgrade (MDGU)
Program and were awarded long-lead production funding for our
new colour, high resolution Active Matrix Liquid Crystal Display
(AMLCD) display suite. The displays are being installed on
Canadian and Australian F-18 (CF-188) aircraft.

Halifax, Nova Scotia Facility |
Our Halifax facility is a recognized centre
of excellence in the manufacture of electronics for armoured
vehicles and
for repair and overhaul of complex avionics products. The facility
is a thriving avionics test and Repair and Overhaul business
that offers “first-to-third” levels of maintenance,
a full range of build-to-print assembly and test capabilities,
ranging from commercial through RF and military specification
levels of sophistication. The facility employs Computer Integrated
Manufacturing (CIM) technology that allows for a flexible production
floor, prompt response to design changes, or the assembly of
multiple variants of a product.
Halifax is also the home of our avionics
weapon system management centre of excellence. An engineering
staff of more than 60
personnel provide specialized technical services in support
of various complex airborne systems, including Canada’s
CP-140 Maritime Patrol Aircraft fleet. We provide systems
engineering for the existing aircraft and several major CP-140
modernization
projects. We are the prime contractor on the Canadian Forces’ CP140
Lifecycle Support Contract, responsible for “total
support” of
the aircraft avionics systems and related ground support
systems through to the end of the life of the aircraft.
