L-3 Electron Devices Offers New 28 VDC Microwave
Power Module
SAN CARLOS, CA, December 8, 2004 — L-3 Communications
Electron Devices (L-3 EDD), a division of L-3 Communications,
announced today that it has expanded its popular Microwave
Power Module (MPM) product line with the availability of
a 28 VDC prime power version to complement its existing 270
VDC and 90–260 VAC RF power amplifier offerings. This
important advance means that several MPM products can now
be scaled to provide peak RF output power as high as 1 kilowatt
on certain narrowband applications within the same relative
form factor, making L-3’s MPMs extremely attractive
to a wide variety of new and enhanced retrofit applications.
The initial product offering has been designated the M1221
Series, which features up to 100 watts in output power over
a broad operating range of 6–18 GHz.
“We have seen a dramatic increase in the acceptance
of our MPM products within the aerospace community prompted
by the inherent advantages of MPMs over traditional TWTA
and solid state offerings — particularly in advanced
data link, SAR/MTI radar and even electronic countermeasure
applications,” said Rob Elmore, vice president of marketing
and programs at L-3 Electron Devices. “With this new
28 VDC front end, we're able to better serve the dominant
bus voltage common to most global aerospace platforms.”
L-3 EDD’s MPM is a supercomponent, combining a solid
state driver with a vacuum power booster (VPB) and integrated
power conditioner (IPC) in a much smaller, lighter and more
efficient package. L-3’s MPMs are used in the USAF
Predator and Global Hawk UAVs as well as in various SATCOM
applications around the world. More information on L-3 EDD
MPM products can be obtained at www.edd.L-3Com.com/mpm/,
