L-3 Communications Display
Systems’ PVI-600™ Series
Multi-Function Display
Receives Technical Standard Order (TSO)
Approval
ALPHARETTA, GA, February 12, 2004 — L-3 Communications
Display Systems (L-3 Display Systems), a division of L-3 Communications
(NYSE: LLL), announced today that it has received FAA Technical
Standard Order (TSO) certification approval of its new PVI-600™
Series
commercial Multi-Function Display (MFD).
The PVI-600™ Series MFD is L-3 Display Systems’ first
product specifically developed for the commercial marketplace.
It is a multi-function display intended to replace existing radar
indicators with an instrument capable of displaying radar, Traffic
Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) and Terrain Awareness
and Warning System (TAWS) data. The initial version of the PVI-600™
Series MFD supports interfaces for the ARINC 708 series of radars,
Bendix
RDR-1300 radars and TAWS data generated by L-3 ACSS T2CAS systems.
Notably, the PVI-600™ MFD design incorporates
a solid state LED backlighting system, which eliminates the fluorescent
tubes
common in most flat panel displays. Fluorescent tubes are life
limited and among the highest failure rate components in a typical
flat panel display.
“We are very pleased to have received FAA
TSO certification on our PVI-600™ display, and we look forward
to developing
our family of display systems for the commercial aviation marketplace,” said
Bob McGill, president of L-3 Display Systems. “The success
of the PVI-600™ Series Multi-Function Display gives us immediate
entry into the commercial aviation avionics market and strengthens
our extensive LCD display portfolio. We expect the PVI-600™ to
be utilized on an extensive range of aircraft, from business jets
to regional and commercial air transports.”
The FAA TSO-C105 and TSO-C113 were awarded concurrently with
the Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) on a Fokker model F-27
aircraft. Chippewa Aerospace provided the technical integration
for the STC.
