L-3 Communications Display Systems Selects
AVGROUP FOR 24/7 AOG Services
ALPHARETTA, GA, September 26, 2003 — L-3 Communications
Display Systems (L-3 Display Systems), a division of L-3 Communications
(NYSE: LLL), announced today that it has selected AVGROUP of Atlanta,
Georgia, to provide commercial, regional and business operators
aircraft on ground (AOG) support services for its Pilot Vehicle
Interface (PVI™) Series 600 Multi Function Display (MFD).
Under the terms of the agreement, AVGROUP will
provide 24-hour, 7 days a week, instant replacement services
to users and operators
of the L-3 Display Systems PVI™ 600 MFD active matrix display.
The PVI™ 600 MFD is a state-of-the-art TSO-C113 MFD with
an ultra-long-life light-emitting diode (LED) solid state lighting
system, which eliminates wear-out MFD items such as the fluorescent
light bulbs found in competitive offerings.
The PVI™ 600 MFD presents various digital and analog weather
radar indicator controls and presentations to aircrews and aircraft
maintenance personnel. Depending on configuration, the PVI™ 600
MFD can overlay symbology and images of Terrain Avoidance Warning
Systems (TAWS) and Traffic Collision Avoidance Systems (TCAS).
The major benefit to cash-strapped airlines and aircraft operators
is that the PVI™ 600 MFD allows additional FAA mandatory
functions to be inserted into “legacy” aircraft without
major instrument panel redesigns.
“We are pleased to have selected AVGROUP to provide AOG
support services for our PVIä 600 MFD,” said Bob McGill,
president of L-3 Display Systems. “With AVGROUP's excellent
track record of instant response capability, L-3 Display Systems
can provide instantaneous world-class customer support. L-3 Display
Systems is a leader in providing high-performance display systems
for demanding environments, and we look forward to providing the
commercial avionics market with our most advanced display technology.”
