L-3 COMMUNICATIONS INTRODUCES THE MULTIPLE TILE VIDEO DISPLAY

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 24, 2000--

New advanced display product provides ruggedized high- resolution, large screen viewing capabilities

L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) announced today that its Display Systems division has introduced the Multiple Tile Video Display(TM) system (MTVD) model 2236, the company's most advanced display system for situational awareness on the digital battlefield. The L-3 MTVD model 2236 is currently being exhibited at the L-3 Communications booth at the Farnborough Air Show, Hall 4, Booth E11.

Display Systems has developed the MTVDs to meet the military's needs for ruggedized, lightweight, deployable, high-resolution large screen displays for Commanders' situational awareness on the digital battlefield. L-3's MTVDs are based on the latest AMLCD flat panel technology, advanced software and interfaces, and provide battlefield commanders a means to bring all available tactical information together to display several digital and/or video inputs simultaneously, or to expand one of the inputs to cover the entire display.

"L-3's Multiple Tile Video Display is a state-of-the-art display and processing suite that is unique in its ability to consolidate information for military commanders," said Bob McGill, president of L-3 Display Systems. "Information management on the battlefield is the key to success in future hostile engagements and L-3's MTVD system provides a window through which this complex information can now be easily understood."

The model 2236 is comprised of four 1280 x 1024 active matrix LCD flat panels, creating a 36" diagonal display. This model is ideal for airborne or ground-based Command and Control applications. Initial deliveries of MTVD model 2236 have been made to the US Army. A larger version of the MTVD, model 3354, comprised of 9 panels with a 54" diagonal display, is also available.

L-3 Display Systems specializes in the design, development and manufacture of ruggedized display systems for highly demanding applications. L-3 Display Systems' product line includes cathode ray tube displays, active matrix liquid crystal flat panel displays and display processor electronics.
