L-3 COMMUNICATIONS AWARDED ELECTRONIC
FLIGHT INSTRUMENTS CONTRACT FOR THE S-3B AIRCRAFT
New York, NY, April 14, 2000 -- L-3
Communications (NYSE:LLL) announced today that its Display Systems
division has been awarded a contract from Naval Air Systems Command
Headquarters (NAVAIR) to provide Electronic Flight Instrument (EFI)
displays for the S-3B Viking aircraft. The contract value, including
options, is in excess of $8.5 million.
Under this contract, L-3 will manufacture
5.5" color active matrix liquid crystal EFI displays that provide
the S-3B aircrew with horizontal and vertical situation data for
navigation. Four EFI displays will be installed in the cockpit to
replace the older electromechanical instruments. The new displays
will provide increased reliability as well as software programmability
to support future capabilities enhancements.

Systems' long partnership with the U.S. Navy S-3B community, upgrades
the S-3B cockpit with the most advanced display technology available,
and increases L-3's presence in the S-3B's cockpit instrument suite,"
said Robert McGill, president of L-3 Display Systems. "We are pleased
to build upon our 21-year heritage in display systems to provide
the U.S. Navy with these next-generation cockpit displays." L-3
also manufactures the S-3B ASA-82 pilot and co-pilot cockpit displays
that are used for precision targeting, tactical plots, and viewing
of sensor data.
