L-3 Communications Awarded Electronic Flight Instrument/Radar Display Unit Contract for Royal Australian Air Force C-130H Aircraft

New York -- 30 January 2003 -- L-3 Communications (NYSE:LLL) announced today that its Display Systems division has been awarded a contract from Marshall Aerospace to provide electronic flight instruments/radar display units (EFI/RDU) for Royal Australian Air Force C-130 aircraft. This multi-year contract is valued at over $3 million.

Under the terms of this contract, L-3 will manufacture 5.5" color active matrix LCD-based displays for the Royal Australian Air Force C-130H fleet. L-3's EFI/RDU is a form-fit-functional replacement display for outdated attitude direction indicators (ADI), horizon situation indicators (HSI), and radar display units (RDU). Five EFI/RDU displays will be installed in the cockpit replacing the older electromechanical instruments. The displays are night vision imaging system (NVIS) compatible and provide dual GPS/TACAN distance to go readouts. The new EFIs/RDUs will provide increased reliability with dramatically improved performance in addition to lower life cycle cost.

"This contract expands L-3 Display Systems' relationship with the international C-130 community and upgrades the venerable C-130 cockpit with the most advanced display technology available," said Bob McGill, president of L-3 Display Systems. "We are pleased to build upon our 25 year heritage in display systems to provide the Royal Australian Air Force with these next-generation cockpit displays. We believe that this cost-effective ADI/HSI/RDU replacement will also find residence on a number of other airborne platforms worldwide."

L-3's EFI/RDU display and other L-3 display products will be on operational display at the Australian International Airshow, Hall C/Stand 317, February 11-16, at the Avalon Airport in Geelong, Victoria.
