CORROSION CONTROL

L-3 Communications and Engineering and Technical Services (E&TS) are experts in
corrosion control with a long legacy and pedigree providing corrosion control services to
the Department of Defense, military and aerospace industries.
As part of our Integrated Sustainment platform and an integral part of our portfolio of Engineering Services, TC3 is The Corrosion Control Component of our Total Life Cycle Systems Management (TLCSM) program provided by E&TS.
Corrosion Control begins during initial design or post-production sustainment of
any system. Failure to control corrosion will lead to:
- increased costs
- mission impairment
- reduced safety
- negative environmental impact

Corrosion negatively impacts cost in a number of ways. It can reduce the performance quality of warfighting
equipment, which may in turn generate the need for additional operational assets and resources. With the potential
for corrosion, considerable downtime is required to detect and assess the presence of corrosion and its impending
effects on this equipment. When corrosion is treated, the equipment requires additional downtime for maintenance.
This reduced availability of equipment significantly affects readiness. To compensate for reduced readiness, the
customer must procure additional equipment at a considerable cost. So there is a “cost multiplier” effect added
operational costs, increased maintenance labor and spare parts, more repair equipment, and added warfighting
equipment inventories contributing to increased cost and creating the potential for even more corrosion and its
effects.
The DoD Corrosion Exchange (DoDCE) is a state-of-the-art corrosion prevention and control information management and distribution e-portal sponsored by the Office of the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Logistics and Material Readiness (DUSD(LM&R)), and the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition Technology and Logistics (OUSD(AT&L)), Office of Corrosion Policy and Oversight. http://www.dodcorrosionexchange.org/
