Mobile Optical Measurement System (MOMS)

The MOMS is a 30-inch aperture laser transmitting/receiving telescope supported and controlled by an elevation/azimuth mount assembly. The MOMS ranging system may be installed at a fixed site or on a specially designed mobile semi-trailer van. The mount assembly incorporates a Coude’ optical path for transmission of a laser beam originating at a fixed “off-mount” optical bench

When configured as a mobile system, the specially designed semi-trailer provides five environmentally controlled compartments for personnel comfort and system operation. The compartments are as follows:

• Optics – protects the telescope/tracking mount; consists of a sliding roof and fold-down sides.
• Laser/Receive – contains and protects the laser and receiver table and has “clean room” rating
• Laser Power – houses the power supply chassis’ for the laser system
• Instrument – contains the mount motion control electronics and satellite ranging electronics
• Air conditioning – location of the temperature and humidity control equipment
