The US Government has made significant progress in the area of state-of-the-art IR decoy technology development. These decoys were developed specifically for the purpose
of countering the emerging heat seeking IR missile threats employing Infrared Counter Countermeasures. L-3 AVISYS has proven that the performance of these state-of-the-art IR decoys can be further enhanced via the use of today’s improved threat warning technologies and certain key situation awareness data.

L-3 AVISYS has integrated two enhanced IRCM capabilities; the Widebody Integrated Platform Protection System (WIPPS) and the Commercial Airliner Platform Protection System (CAPS). These systems employ two different state of the art missile warning subsystems, a programmable countermeasures dispensing subsystem and DoD’s advanced IR decoys.

The two missile warning subsystems provide an optimum multi-spectral approach for simultaneously increasing threat detection probabilities and confidence levels, optimizing missile warning time line responses for decoy dispensing commands, and essentially eliminating heritage false alarms that typically plague stand alone missile warning systems. The WIPPS and CAPS systems utilize strategically placed countermeasure dispensers to maximize the threat exposure to the state-of-the-art decoys. The WIPPS and CAPS decoy dispensing programs are optimized for providing the highest level of protection achievable for any IRCM technology against the new multi-launch threat doctrines being employed by today’s adversaries.
