Aircraft & Mission Operations
L 3 Aeromet was founded on expertise in airborne testing and data acquisition. We are a premier developer, integrator, and operator of airborne EO/IR sensors. Our extensive skills include; planning, executing, collecting - exploiting data, and all mission activities – cradle to grave.

L 3 Aeromet operates the airborne optical truth data sensors for the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) in High ALtitude Observatory (HALO I & HALO II) aircraft. These systems collect terabytes of EO IR data during MDA tests (and other tests). The data collected is through all phases of missile flight – lift-off to intercept or splash down.

Airborne captive carry is a specialty of L 3 Aeromet. We are typically involved throughout the captive flight testing process. We provide engineering, design, aircraft modifications, aircraft operations, and mission operations.

Data Collection, Production, and Exploitation
L 3 Aeromet’s data reduction and production capabilities provide user communities with radiometrically accurate optical truth data, in a user-friendly and information rich format. Typically, around a terabyte of data is reduced, produced, and delivered within 72 hours. All results are validated and compiled into easy-to-use raw and processed data products. Included with the data products are sensor calibrations, missile trajectory reconstructions, IR signature extractions, applicable data and reference documentation, along with a custom image viewer.

L 3 Aeromet develops algorithms to exploit airborne IR missile data through the MDA’s Airborne Infrared Surveillance (AIRS) program. Our techniques for algorithm development include real-time mission test participation, model and simulation, and post-mission data analysis. The AIRS Program has demonstrated early missile detection, two-dimensional tracking, and three-dimensional missile state estimation. These engagement-quality three-dimensional state vector estimates have been communicated, in real time, over the horizon, to other military assets – demonstrating closing of the fire control loop from a remote sensor.

Aircraft Modification
Since inception, L 3 Aeromet has been actively involved with government research, development, testing, and evaluation (RDT&E) programs. Our fully integrated project team ensures the design, procurement, manufacturing, installation, test, and certification efforts produces optimal solutions meeting customer requirements. We have modified of over 45 aircraft for sophisticated airborne optical platforms, meteorological data gathering, complex electronic warfare aircraft, autonomous unmanned reconnaissance, aircraft avionic upgrades, FAA STC programs, and special mission aircraft.
