November 15, 2002 – Thales Avionics and ACSS, an L-3 Communications & Thales Company, are pleased to announce that Aeromexico has selected T‘CAS™ (Terrain and Traffic Collision Avoidance System) for installation in its Boeing 757, 767 and MD-80 aircraft. T‘CAS is a unique safety avionics product that combines aircraft performance-based TAWS (Terrain Awareness Warning System) with the industry’s leading traffic alert and collision warning system, the TCAS 2000. Aeromexico, one of the largest airlines in Mexico, also selected T‘CAS’ optional Windshear function and GPS.

“Aeromexico has been a faithful customer of our first generation TCAS product for many years,” said Joe Hoffman, president of ACSS. “We’re thrilled Aeromexico has selected T‘CAS and look forward to continuing to support them and their safety avionics needs in the years to come.”

Aeromexico joins Northwest Airlines, Federal Express and Virgin Express as major carriers to select T‘CAS. T‘CAS is on schedule to certify by the end of this year.

Unlike other TAWS products, T‘CAS is a true terrain avoidance product that bases its operator alerts on an aircraft’s actual ability to climb at a given moment – not based on predetermined computations. T‘CAS also reduces space requirements, and wiring because it’s a combined TCAS and TAWS solution. This allows customers already using TCAS 2000 or ACSS’ first generation TCAS II to simply swap out the TCAS box for the new T‘CAS box and use existing power and wiring. T‘CAS is also available with optional Windshear.

For Aeromexico, the single LRU solution for TAWS and TCAS was especially appealing. T‘CAS offers space advantages by combining TCAS, TAWS, Windshear, and GPS, which eliminates the need for two additional boxes on the aircraft. Aeromexico also benefits from common equipment and cost savings of a single-LRU.
