FARNBOROUGH, July, 24, 2002 – ACSS, an L-3 Communications & Thales Company, announces that FedEx Express has selected T2CAS™ for its fleet of Fokker-27 aircraft. T2CAS™ is a unique safety avionics product that combines aircraft performance-based TAWS (Terrain Awareness Warning System) with the industry’s leading traffic alert and collision warning system, the TCAS 2000.

“We’re thrilled that FedEx Express has selected T2CAS™,” said Joe Hoffman, president of ACSS. “Our relationship with FedEx dates back to the early ‘90s when they purchased our first-generation TCAS II. FedEx has now selected a safety avionics solution that not only delivers the industry’s best TCAS, but also raises the bar for TAWS technology.”

Unlike other TAWS products, T2CAS™ is a true terrain avoidance product that bases its operator alerts on an aircraft’s actual ability to climb at a given moment – not based on predetermined computations. T2CAS™ also reduces weight, power consumption, space requirements, and wiring because it’s a combined TCAS and TAWS solution. This allows customers already using TCAS 2000 or ACSS’s first generation TCAS II to simply swap out the TCAS box for the new T2CAS™ box and use existing power and wiring.

“The ACSS single LRU solution is especially appealing to us due to the size, weight and space limitations inherent in our feeder aircraft. By combining TCAS and TAWS, we eliminate the need for an additional component on the aircraft,” said Mark Blair, vice president of supplemental air operations, FedEx Express.

The TCAS 2000 became the industries’ first second-generation TCAS II product when it was launched in 1997. Since then, ACSS has delivered more than 5,000 units, making it the best selling second-generation TCAS II in the industry. The TCAS 2000 has earned acclaim throughout aviation for its ability to track aircraft beyond 100 nautical miles and its built-in growth capability for enhancements such as TAWS and Automatic Dependence Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B).

ACSS announced the development of T2CAS™ (Terrain and Traffic Collision Avoidance System) at last year’s Paris Air Show. Certification is anticipated at the end of this year.
