SINGAPORE, February 24, 2004 – ACSS, an L-3 Communications & Thales Company, announces several additions to its line of safety avionics products for air transport, regional, business and military aircraft, including the Protector+™, a common computing platform that can host a range of surveillance functions using a common RF and processor with important improvements in efficiency, reliability and cost of ownership. The product line will be on display during Asian Aerospace in Hall A, Exhibit A1117.

Protector+ allows operators the flexibility to mix and match safety functions such as TCAS (traffic alert and collision avoidance system), TAWS (terrain awareness warning system), Mode S transponder and GPS in a 4- or 6-MCU line-replaceable unit (LRU). It builds on ACSS’s product portfolio, which includes the industry-leading TCAS 2000, the T²CAS™ (combined terrain and traffic collision avoidance system), MASS™ (enhanced TCAS for military) and a family of Mode S transponders, by adding an even greater level of expandability and reliability to the LRU. It is designed as a “plug and play” upgrade for the TCAS 2000 and the T²CAS.

Customers can configure the Protector+ to meet their specific safety avionics requirements by choosing from a host of enhanced functions, including:

TAWS+/TAWS+performance: Available as part of the Protector+, T2CAS or as a stand-alone 2-MCU unit, TAWS+ bases its alerts on a standard climb gradient, while TAWS+performance delivers an even higher level of safety by basing alerts and terrain display call-outs on the unique performance characteristics of the aircraft. Both TAWS+ products have the patented Terrain Advisory Line (TAL), “Avoid Terrain” and Engine Out features.

TCAS+: The only third generation TCAS II, TCAS+ is available as a function within Protector+, T2CAS, or in a stand-alone LRU. Enhancements in hardware and software design enable the TCAS software to identify and avoid up to twice the current number of aircraft within a 100 nautical mile radius. Dassault has selected TCAS+ for the new Falcon 7X business jet.

Xpdr+: Can be selected as a function within the Protector+ or as a stand-alone 4-MCU LRU, Xpdr+ is ACSS’s third generation Mode S diversity transponder with advanced features such as Elementary & Enhanced Surveillance and ADS-B.

In addition to these new products, ACSS also announces the new Dlink+. Dlink+ is a state of the art, high performance flight deck data communication system that provides access to ACARS (aircraft communications and reporting system) and other services. Dlink+ integrates a communications management unit, VDL Mode 2 digital radio, and control display unit, offering operators a strong combination of functionality and value in a small package. Dlink+ has been selected by Air Wisconsin for their feet of Bombardier CRJs and British Aerospace BAe 146s.

These additions to the ACSS product line are a continuation of the company’s mission to develop and deliver innovative solutions that improve flight safety and lowers cost of ownership.
