ACSS AWARDED ID/IQ CONTRACT FROM U.S. AIR FORCE

-- TCAS/TAWS Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity Contract Will List ACSS Products
On the ESC/GA Web-based iGATM Electronic Ordering Catalog --

PHOENIX, January 14, 2003 – ACSS, an L-3 Communications & Thales Company, has been selected by the U.S. Air Force, Global Air Traffic Operations/Mobility Command and Control Program Office, Hanscom Air Force Base (ESC/GA), as a potential supplier of both TCAS and TAWS systems and components to the Air Force.

The ID/IQ contract was effective November 22, 2002, with ACSS’s product offerings listed for viewing on the ESC/GA web-based iGATM (www.igatm.com) electronic ordering catalog. Along with this selection comes the possibility of providing the systems and components to other Department of Defense agencies.

“This is an important step in offering our safety avionic systems broadly to the U.S. military,” said Joe Hoffman, ACSS president.

Among the ACSS products now offered on the ID/IQ are:

  • T²CAS™ terrain and traffic collision avoidance system, a combined TCAS and TAWS (terrain awareness warning system) that bases its operator alerts on an aircraft’s actual ability to climb at a given moment – not based on predetermined computations.

  • TCAS 2000, the industry’s only second-generation traffic alert and collision avoidance system with more than 6,000 deliveries in commercial and military aircraft throughout the world. The ACSS TCAS 2000 has earned acclaim throughout aviation for its extended range surveillance capability (able to track aircraft beyond 100 nautical miles) using its ADS-B extended squitter function, and is designed to meet future requirements such as Change 8, Airborne Separation Assurance System (ASAS) and ADS-B hybrid surveillance.

  •  XS-950SI Mode S/IFF Data Link Transponder, a full-featured transponder implementing all the currently defined Mode S and IFF functions, including DO181B Enhanced Surveillance, GPS position, velocity, Flight ID extended squitter with built-in growth for IFF Mode 5. The XS-950SI is DOD AIMS 97-1000 certified.

L-3 Communications' Aviation Communications and Surveillance Systems division is a leader in avionics safety systems and has approximately 8,000 units installed in commercial, corporate and military aircraft. TCAS reduces the potential for mid-air collisions and provides an independent and complementary supplement to the air traffic control (ATC) system.

Headquartered in New York City, L-3 Communications is a leading merchant supplier of secure communications systems and products, avionics and ocean products, training products, microwave components and telemetry, instrumentation, space and wireless products. Its customers include the Department of Defense, selected US government intelligence agencies, aerospace prime contractors and commercial telecommunications and wireless customers.
