ACSS RECEIVES COMMUNITY PRIDE AWARD Award Recognizes Educational Partnership within Deer Valley School District Contact:
PHOENIX, Jan. 9, 2002 - ACSS, an L-3 Communications & Thales Company, received the prestigious PRIDE Award from the Deer Valley Unified School District at the district's Board Meeting Jan. 8. The award recognizes outstanding educators, volunteers and community partners for their commitment to education. "In a relatively short time in the community, ACSS has taken a leadership role in supporting and working collaboratively with the Deer Valley Unified School District," said Superintendent Dr. Bill Hill. "We are excited about the commitment they have made to our children and educators as we all strive to provide greater opportunities for our community. This is a great partnership that has already had a positive impact on students and the entire school. Partnerships of this nature help schools and students succeed, today and into the future." In 2001, ACSS' donations to the Deer Valley School District included a specific contribution to Desert Winds Elementary School for the creation of an Accelerated Math Program for its 4th-6th grade students. The program is a computer-based supplement to the regular math curriculum and is geared toward improving math scores. Desert Winds is located just eight blocks from the ACSS facility. Desert Winds' students toured the new ACSS facility in north Phoenix on Dec. 6. The students learned about ACSS' business, its products and the international aviation community. Company representatives have also visited the Desert Winds as part of an ongoing educational partnership. "We were honored to receive the PRIDE Award," said John Leshinski, vice president and General Counsel for ACSS. "We are proud of the partnership we have established with Desert Winds and the Deer Valley School District, and believe in the importance of contributing to youth-based educational programs in our local community." The Deer Valley PRIDE Award, presented by the District's Governing Board, recognizes outstanding educators, volunteers and community partners. Recipients are nominated by individuals or campuses in the district and must show a commitment to education and support of students' achievement above and beyond expectations. The PRIDE program, started more than 20 years ago, is the highest honor presented by the Deer Valley Governing Board.
