L-3 TE’s Microdyne RCB-3000 Takes Top Tier in Tier II Demodulation

L-3 TE’s Microdyne RCB-3000 Diversity Receiver is the only telemetry receiver that meets all of the phase noise requirements for Tier II demodulation specified in IRIG 106-04. Since its debut at the 2004 International Telemetering Conference (ITC), several RCB-3000 units have been deployed to support flight test operations at Edwards Air Force Base and the Yuma Pacific Missile Range, with other orders pending.

IRIG 106-04 Tier II requirements specify that the receiver must have a minimum phase noise of -103 dBc at 100 kHz offset. Both IRIG Tier I and II modulation formats require phase-coherent demodulation techniques, and receivers like our RCB-3000 provide superior phase noise characteristics to achieve greater performance for these modulation modes.

In addition, the RCB-3000 Diversity Receiver provides a multi-symbol trellis FM demodulator. The trellis FM demodulator offers a more efficient FM detection scheme that will provide a link margin improvement of up to 3 dB. Previously, this feature was only available using an external demodulator.

The workhorses of the industry, L-3 TE Microdyne Digital Receiver products can be found on most U.S. test ranges, including Edwards AFB, China Lake Naval Air Base, Pacific Missile Range Facility, White Sands Missile Range, Eglin AFB, Ventura Naval Air Station, Regan Test Site, and Kodiak Launch Facility.
