L-3 TE to Supply Complete Telemetry Systems for Raytheon's RAM Guided Missiles
In September 2004, L-3 TE received a build-to-print
order from Raytheon Missile Systems in Tucson, Az, to deliver 74
Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) MK-13 Mod 6 telemetry warhead replacement
systems for first article testing and production flight test hardware.
This award to provide telemetry systems for missile testing is
the most recent in a long history of orders to support US Government
missile development and test programs.
L-3 TE has been supporting test programs for Raytheon Missile
Systems, and previously Hughes Missile Systems, dating back to
1988. Our legacy hardware and new products, including transmitters,
transponders, data acquisition PCM encoders, and now complete telemetry
systems, have become the de facto standard missile test hardware
at Raytheon over the last few years.
The RAM Guided Missile Weapon System is the world's most modern
ship self-defense weapon and has been specifically designed to
provide excep-tional protection for ships of all sizes. RAM is
a supersonic, lightweight, quick-reaction, fire-and-forget missile
designed to destroy anti-ship missiles. RAM systems are aboard
more than 60 ships in the navies of the United States, Germany,
Greece, and Korea. The missile has been fired in over 150 flight
tests to date, resulting in a success rate of greater than 95 percent.
Such extremely high reliability is the culmination of years of
development, testing, and design improvements. The latest design
test articles, the Block 1 versions, will include the use of the
telemetry system being built by L-3 TE on this order.
“
We are honored to continue our long-standing relationship with
Raytheon on the RAM program, and we remain as committed as ever
to deliver maximum value with the highest level of quality possible — both
in service and technical innovation,” said Rod Oren, senior
vice president and general manager of L-3 Telemetry-East. “With
recent improvements in program execution and product performance
on many other recent and current Raytheon procurements, this effort
demonstrates our team’s dedication to the program as well
as the needs of the telemetry marketplace over the long term.”
