Constant Efficiency Amplifier (CEA)

CEA DiagramsA marriage of two proven technologies, the IOT and the multiple stage depressed collector, the Constant Efficiency Amplifier (CEA) is the most efficient UHF TV amplifier available. Designed for DTV, the L-3 CEA 130 reduces transmission costs by over $20,000 per tube per year. Excellent linearity allows full correction across the entire UHF band while delivering 30 kW of average power (130 kw peak power) in 8VSB service. PAO synthetic oil cools and electrically insulates the MSDC collector, saving thousands of dollars in maintenance and repair costs over the life of the transmitter.

L-3 IOT 80

The IOTD 85T and IOTD 130T are high efficiency tube and circuit assemblies capable of operating in the UHF-TV frequency range of 470-810 MHz. The amplifiers are designed for digital transmitters requiring up to 30 kW average/130 KW peak output in 8VSB digital service or up to 70+7 kW in common mode service.

The IOTD 50 is designed for applications in today’s digital IOT transmitters. It is a drop-in replacement for the e2v 8303 and D250 and  will provide outstanding performance in a wide variety of transmitters and unique operating conditions. Covering the complete range of UHF operating frequencies with 22 dB gain and 15/55KW of avg/peak power output, the L-3 IOTD 50 is ideal for low power installations where high peak power is not necessary.

The IOTD 85 is designed for the most widely used applications in today’s digital IOT transmitters. Designed as a drop in replacement for the e2v 8404 or D270, the IOTD 85 will provide outstanding performance in a wide variety of transmitters and unique operating conditions. Covering the complete range of UHF operating frequencies with 22 dB gain and up to 20/85 KW of avg/peak power, the L-3 IOTD 85 is the broadcaster’s choice for new or replacement service.

The IOTD 110 is the next highest power level used in today’s digital IOT transmitters. Designed as a drop in replacement for the e2v 8505 or D2100, the IOTD 110 will provide outstanding performance in digital transmitters for either 8 VSB or COFDM service. Covering the complete range of UHF operating frequencies with 22 dB gain and up to 25/110 KW of avg/peak power, the L-3 IOTD 110 is the broadcaster’s choice for a high performance replacement tube.

The IOTD 110P is a plug-in version of the IOTD 110 and is a direct replacement for the e2v D2100.  All the advantages of a plug-in tube are available with this design without the expense of purchasing a new trolley assembly.  A bi-directional contact ring replaces one of the contact rings on the existing output cavity which can be installed in less than one-hour.  Connect a new set of cooling hoses and you are ready to get back on the air.

The IOTD 130 is the highest power digital IOT L-3 EDD manufacturers. With the advent of digital television, the L-3 IOTD 130 offers the broadcaster the ability to operate at 130 KW peak power for greater viewing area coverage. The tube fits in a standard size circuit assembly and typical OEM transmitter cabinet. This tube was formerly used in analog 70 + 7 kW service.

The IOTD 130D is designed as a direct replacement for the e2v D2130.  Minor modifications to the cooling hoses are required and all hardware necessary for the tube replacement is included with the product.  The modifications can be installed in less than 1 hour using simple hand tools.

THYRATRONS

ThyratronsL-3 Communications Electron Devices manufactures the L-4945A thyratron for installation in broadcast transmitters. Designed to be equivalent to the E2V CX 2708, the L-4945A offers broadcasters a reliable and economic alternative for performing crowbar operations in IOT transmitters.

Electron Devices has been synonymous with the design and production of microwave devices - magnetrons, klystrons, traveling wave tubes for military and commercial customers worldwide. But it has also developed a fine reputation for producing an extensive line of ceramic/metal thyratrons. Customers from the laser and scientific markets as well as the medical and industrial sectors have been using L-3 Electron Device thyratrons for over 15 years. These devices are produced using rigorous military standards such as Mil-I 45208 and MIL-Q-9858A assuring unequaled reliability and long lasting performance.

Contact the Williamsport facility for more information or click here for detailed performance data sheet on the L-4945A (pdf format).
