A marriage of two proven technologies, the IOT and the multiple stage depressed collector, the Constant Efficiency Amplifier (CEA) is the most efficient UHF TV amplifier available. Designed for DTV, the L-3 CEA 130 reduces transmission costs by over $20,000 per tube per year. Excellent linearity allows full correction across the entire UHF band while delivering 30 kW of average power (130 kw peak power) in 8VSB service. PAO synthetic oil cools and electrically insulates the MSDC collector, saving thousands of dollars in maintenance and repair costs over the life of the transmitter.

The L-3 IOT 80T and L-3 IOTD 130T are high efficiency tube and circuit assemblies capable of operating in the UHF-TV frequency range of 470-810 MHz. The amplifiers are designed for new analog and digital transmitters requiring combined vision/aural service, vision-only service as well as aural-only service. When equipped with a L-3 IOT 80 or L-3 IOTD 130, the units are capable of 30 kW average/130 kW peak output in 8VSB digital service or 70+7 KW in common mode service.

The L-3 IOT 60/L-3 IOTD 110 is designed for the most widely used applications in today's IOT transmitters. Designed as a drop in replacement for the Marconi 7360/8404/8600 IOT's, the L-3 IOT 60/L-3 IOTD 110 will provide outstanding performance in a wide variety of transmitters and unique operating conditions. Covering the complete range of UHF operating frequencies with 22 dB gain and 44+4.4 kW output, the L-3 IOT 60/L-3 IOTD 110 is the broadcaster's choice for replacement tube performance.

The L-3 IOT 80/L-3 IOTD 130 is the highest power IOT in the L-3 Electron Devices inventory. With the advent of digital television, the L-3 IOT 80/L-3 IOTD 130 offers the broadcaster the ability to operate at 130 KW peak power for greater viewing area coverage. Yet the tube can still fit in a standard size circuit assembly and typical OEM transmitter cabinet. For analog use, the L-3 IOT 80 is a 70+7 KW tube, matching the newer needs of many TV stations.

L-3 Communications Electron Devices manufactures the L-4945A thyratron for installation in broadcast transmitters. Designed to be equivalent to the E2V CX 2708, the L-4945A offers broadcasters a reliable and economic alternative for performing crowbar operations in IOT transmitters.

Electron Devices has been synonymous with the design and production of microwave devices - magnetrons, klystrons, traveling wave tubes for military and commercial customers worldwide. But it has also developed a fine reputation for producing an extensive line of ceramic/metal thyratrons. Customers from the laser and scientific markets as well as the medical and industrial sectors have been using L-3 Electron Device thyratrons for over 15 years. These devices are produced using rigorous military standards such as Mil-I 45208 and MIL-Q-9858A assuring unequaled reliability and long lasting performance.

Contact the Williamsport facility for more information or click here for detailed performance data sheet on the L-4945A (pdf format).
