L-3 Communications Display Systems Submits Applications
to FAA for TSO and STC Approval

ALPHARETTA, GA, September 29, 2003 — L-3 Communications Display Systems (L-3 Display Systems), a division of L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL), announced today that it has completed all FAA-mandated testing required for submission of an application for Technical Standard Order (TSO) approval of its new PVIä Series 600 commercial Multi-Function Display (MFD). L-3 will be submitting simultaneous applications for TSO approval and Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) approval on a Fokker F-27 aircraft. Award of both the TSO and STC approvals is anticipated shortly.

The PVIä Series 600 MFD is L-3 Display Systems’ first product specifically developed for the commercial marketplace. It is a multi-function display intended to replace existing radar indicators with an instrument capable of displaying radar, Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) and Terrain Avoidance Warning System (TAWS) data. The initial version of the PVIä 600 MFD supports interfaces for the ARINC 708 series of radars, Bendix RDR-1300 radars and TAWS data generated by L-3 ACSS T2CAS systems and Honeywell Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning Systems. Notably, the PVIä 600 MFD design incorporates a solid state LED backlighting system, which eliminates the fluorescent tubes common in most flat panel displays. Fluorescent tubes are life limited and among the highest failure rate components in a typical flat panel display.

“We are very proud of our application submission for TSO and STC,” said Bob McGill, president of L-3 Display Systems. “With 25 years of experience in developing display systems for high-performance aircraft, L-3 Display Systems is well-positioned to bring state-of-the-art technology to the commercial aviation marketplace.”
