L-3 Communications Wins Contract
To Provide Tactical Workstation Displays for E2-C Aircraft
NEW YORK, NY, September 30, 1998 --
L-3 Communications (NYSE:LLL) announced today that its Display Systems
division has been awarded a contract from Naval Inventory Control
Point (NAVICP) to provide tactical workstation displays for the
E-2C Hawkeye aircraft. The multi-year contract is valued in excess
of $6 million and is expected to be complete by February, 2000.
Under the contract, L-3 will provide
enhanced main display units (EMDUs) and spare parts for the E-2C
Airborne Early Warning/Command and Control aircraft. The EMDU is
a high-resolution, color, CRT beam index display with an 11"x11"
viewable area. The EMDU provides the E-2C system operators a significant
improvement in visual representation of the total tactical picture
for enhanced situation awareness. Key EMDU advantages include expansion
of symbol display capacity by 1,000%, multi-color imagery to enhance
visual orientation and efficiency, and auxiliary data display windows
options. These improvements provide an order of magnitude increase
in target detection and display capabilities to meet the increasing
demands of the E-2C operational environment.
Over 250 production EMDUs have been
delivered to date. EMDUs have been procured worldwide for use by
the United States Navy, French Navy, Egyptian Navy, and the Republic
of China.
