L-3 COMMUNICATIONS TO DEMONSTRATE
MODEL 550 ELECTRONIC FLIGHT INSTRUMENT AT PARIS AIR SHOW
NEW YORK, NY, June 17, 2001 - L-3 Communications
(NYSE:LLL) announced today that its Display Systems division will
demonstrate the company's newest flat panel Active Matrix Liquid
Crystal Display (AMLCD) cockpit display, the Model 550 Electronic
Flight Instrument (EFI), at the Paris Air Show, Le Bourget, France.
The Model 550 EFI and other L-3 flat panel display products will
be on operational display at the L-3 Communications Booth, Hall
4, Stand B3.
The Model 550 EFI is a cost effective replacement
for outdated electromechanical Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) or older LCD
cockpit displays. Model 550 EFIs are currently flying onboard the
U.S. Air Force C-130H, the U.S. Navy S-3B, and the Royal Singapore
Air Force S-211 aircraft. L-3 is presently in the process of certifying
the Model 550 for additional international aircraft programs.
"The Model 550 EFI is a plug-and-play replacement
for older instruments and offers advantages in performance, reliability
and availability." said Bob McGill, president of L-3 Communications'
Display Systems division. "This proven system, along with our wide
range of additional displays and processors, provides our customers
with the choices required to upgrade to complete glass cockpits."
The Model 550 fully meets 4x5 and 5-ATI installation
standards and offers cross-cockpit viewing with four times greater
resolution than other active matrix LCD-based electronic flight
instruments. Additional features include the availability of multiple
video, analog, discrete, synchro, resolver and bus interface options,
thus making the Model 550 EFI fully compatible with future Traffic
Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) requirements. The Model
550 EFI meets Full-Mil and DO-160D environments and is available
with various EFIS, MFD and video bezel options.
