L-3 COMMUNICATIONS AWARDED SHIPBOARD WORKSTATION CONTRACT FROM BOEING

NEW YORK, NY, May 25, 2000 -- L-3 Communications (NYSE:LLL) announced today that its Display Systems division has been awarded a contract from The Boeing Company to provide shipboard workstations for the Virtual Imaging System for Approach and Landing (VISUAL) program. L-3 Display Systems is teamed with Boeing for the contract from NAWC Lakehurst and Naval Air Systems Command Headquarters (NAVAIR). The L-3 contract value will exceed $14 million, including options.

VISUAL is a major system upgrade to the aircraft recovery monitoring and display systems aboard U.S. Navy aircraft carriers and amphibious assault ships. The existing system, which supports the Landing Signal Officer (LSO) in assessing the pilot's performance on final approach, is obsolete and inadequate in meeting current and future operational requirements.

Under this contract, L-3 will develop and manufacture a new ruggedized workstation comprised of four 15-inch color active matrix liquid crystal displays, processing electronics, and system/display software. This new workstation will provide the LSO with advanced technology, improving the capability for the safe and efficient recovery of aircraft.

"This contract is significant in that it represents a new product and a new market for L-3 Display Systems," said Robert McGill, President of L-3 Display Systems. "It expands our market depth and builds upon L-3's long partnership with the U.S. Navy building high performance displays and processing suites for the LCAC, F-14, E-2C and S-3B platforms. This initial contract for shipboard workstation systems is significant as we continue to broaden L-3's relationship with the U.S. Navy and Boeing."

L-3 Display Systems specializes in the design, development and manufacture of ruggedized display systems for highly demanding applications. L-3 Display Systems' product line includes cathode ray tube displays, active matrix liquid crystal flat panel displays and display processor electronics.
