24/7 Depot Operations
L-3 CS-East maintains a factory depot for the production and repair of S/TAR products and modules. L-3 CS-East offers several plans for repair, from inventory-based rapid turnaround of replacement spare modules to normal repair/rework. In addition to normal repair services, L-3 CS-East offers diagnostic evaluation and end-of-life rejuvenation via replacement and upgrades of original product components.

Engineering Design Services and Solutions
If the basic S/TAR product series does not provide the interface or performance capabilities required, then L-3 CS-East will tailor a S/TAR product variant to meet customer requirements. The basic S/TAR building blocks will form the basis for a customer-specific design, leading to a controlled S/TAR product variant. The options may range for different signal or data interfaces, additional data channels, packaging variants, modified control features, networking protocols and non-standard documentation packages. L-3 CS-East always is prepared to respond to your specific application requirements.

Training Classes (Installation, Operation, Maintenance)
L-3 CS-East offers a variety of training courses to fit customer needs and budgets. Our in-plant training course fits up to 10 people. This two day all-inclusive course covers all aspects of S/TAR product use. The course covers installation, operation and maintenance of the product. In addition, special topics, including operational characteristics, special features and product use-scenario optimization are described. Factory services and maintenance plan options are discussed as well as warranty options. Hands-on use of the S/TAR product is provided. Each student receives an Installation, Operation and Maintenance Guide for the S/TAR product.

Field Integration and Flight Test Support
L-3 CS-East provides field engineering and technical services to support customer installation and operation of all S/TAR products. Our support personnel can work with your staff at a myriad of levels. We are prepared to standby on-site to perform routine installation, performance assessment and LRU replacement as required. And we also can be integrated into your support team, becoming knowledgeable of the application and operations where our product is involved, to assist in the overall system optimization. This may include data evaluation, file structure analysis, interface certification, environmental suitability analysis, data transfer rate optimization, control features exploitation, data download and archiving recommendations/implementation support, system level debug and custom development of command and control software.

Software Packages

  • S/TAR Control Software with Graphical User Interface
    L-3 CS-East offers both single user platform and site license for control software that allows the user to exercise the S/TAR product. This user friendly capability is GUI-based and executable in the WINDOWS NT environment. Based on the control interface implemented on the specific S/TAR product, a dedicated control port may be required to interface with the S/TAR product.
  • S/TAR Maintenance/Logistics Support Software
    L-3 CS-East offers both single user platform and site license for maintenance software that allows the user to evaluate the S/TAR product and supports maintenance decisions. This WINDOWS NT-based software, with suitable control port supported, allows the rapid assessment of the S/TAR product, leading the user through the steps to problem identification, recommended remedial actions and restoration of performance. Maintenance actions are logged for long-term planning and trend analysis.
  • S/TAR Data Archive Software
    L-3 CS-East offers both single user platform and site license for data offloading software that allows the user to download memory contents from the S/TAR product to another media or platform. These WINDOWS NT-based software packages support a wide range of download options, allowing the user to move data from S/TAR memory to PC-based hard drives or other networked storage devices(s).

Ground Archiving Solutions

  • Data Download for Rapid Data Assessment
    L-3 CS-East has a number of hardware solutions that support download of data from our S/TAR products for data capture, analysis and exploitation. Standard PC-based platforms can be configured to rapidly offload data from the S/TAR products at intrinsically high data rates. Once data is transferred, files can be opened, images displayed, signals analyzed/reconstructed based on the nature of the stored data. This capability can be implemented in portable/transportable configurations (e.g. laptop, suitcase), where the data download and assessment must be brought to the S/TAR product’s installed location.
  • Data Duplication/Dissemination of Standard Commercial Media
    The S/TAR products support a high data rate offload capability (playback), which is compatible with several standard recorders/peripheral interfaces. This allows for the convenience of data duplication and data dissemination on a myriad of removable media devices. These include removable hard drives and tape cartridges (e.g. SDLT, AIT, LTO).
  • Storage to Networked Library for Shared Data Access
    L-3 CS-East is working with SANS solution providers to ensure connectivity compatibility between the S/TAR products and ground-based storage assets. Depending upon the level of data protection and access demands, L-3 CS-East can configure an optimized data repository that meets your requirements. Library systems warehousing many Terabytes of data can be configured. Many standard tape cartridge products, such as SDLT, AIT and LTO, can be selected as constituent parts of any archive. Solutions are scalable from desktop autoloaders to full multi-drive library systems.

Mating Connectors, Airborne/Ground Cable Sets
S/TAR products primarily are destined for use in the severe environment and as such utilize military style connectors suitable for airborne applications. Therefore L-3 CS-East offers mating connectors and customer cable sets all S/TAR products to facilitate the user-specific installation requirements. L-3 CS-East assures its customers of a source of interface connectors and cable sets to ensure compatibility and performance compliance with environmental specifications.

Reusable Shipping Containers
L-3 CS-East ships all S/TAR products using best commercial packaging techniques. Reusable shipping containers also are available for all S/TAR products. These shipping containers provide safe and clean storage where intermittent use or frequent relocation of equipment is required.

Line Replaceable Units for all Models
Since common modules are used in all S/TAR products, L-3 CS-East maintains an inventory of product modules and components to support fielded product. It is recommended that a set of spare LRUs be maintained on site for rapid restoration of performance from any anomaly during use. Due to the high reliability of the S/TAR products, minimal sparing of modules is required, but considered precautionary. L-3 CS-East logistics specialists are available to work with each customer in developing a sparing philosophy that supports the user's mission concept of operation.

Field Diagnostics Kit (Laptop, Software and Cables)
L-3 CS-East offers a portable system that can be taken into the field and connected to the S/TAR product to assess the health, performance and corrective action required to restore optimum performance. This system can be used for on-site support by both customer and L-3 CS-East personnel for routine evaluations to developmental field support. All that is required is a primary power source for the S/TAR itself and access to the interface connectors. Using this kit the S/TAR can be operated to support maintenance decisions as guided by the diagnostic software routines or just to support normal operation and status gathering.
